Bringing Smile through service coordination at Centre of Excellence- District Early Intervention Centre (COE-DEIC), Noida

Rajeev (name changed), a boy from Saharanpur (UP) was suffering from some unknown disease, feeling very ill and his health was going down every day. Not only Rajeev but his parents were also very depressed due to this. One day, one of their friends informed them about DEIC based at Noida. After the very second day of knowing this, they have visited COE-DEIC with Rajeev. During their visit, Child was diagnosed with ASD, TGA. The case referred to SSPH, but due to the critical case of Rajeev, he again referred to higher centre AMU.

Since the case was critical and parents were not financially stable to go for private hospitals nor they had much time for travel to AMU, Aligarh. With an extra effort made by Team DEIC, Rajeev was admitted in some renowned Hospital and surgery was done successfully on 6^th July 2019.

Now, we are much satisfied by looking at the happy faces of Child and his parents. They are grateful to DEIC for early identification of the case and not just referral but also good service coordination with Hospital, which save the life of Rajeev.

Like Rajeev, many other families are thanking the whole team of COE-DEIC for their endless support at every stage.

About DEIC

District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) under RBSK program of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI provides the much needed early interventions services, which are easily approachable, adoptable, user-friendly and cost-effective.

At DEIC, 4Ds i.e, Defects at Birth, Diseases, Deficiencies, Developmental Delays & Disabilities are being identified at a very early stage, so that we can minimize the disability in child and improve the quality of their lives. DEICs provides an interdisciplinary approach by multi-disciplinary team placed under one roof by housing age-appropriate and domain-specific equipment with specifically trained domain specialities. DEIC also does provide referral supports to children detected with health conditions during health screening, primarily for children up to 6 years of age group.

At Present, HLFPPT is managing and operationalizing Two DEICs, one is acting as Centre of Excellence based at Noida which ensures comprehensive services under one roof with a holistic approach to children with special needs and also provides referral linkages and another one is normal DEIC located in Ghaziabad.

Some of the services offered under DEICs are Lab, Service Coordination, Special Education, Sensory, Cognition, Vision, Psychological, Occupational Therapy, Speech, Audiology, Dental and Medical Services.
