Voluntary Blood Donation

Voluntary non-remunerated blood donors are considered to be the foundation of safe blood supply as they reduce the risk of transmitting potentially life-threatening infections including HIV, Hepatitis viruses, Malaria, etc. In order to increase voluntary blood donation in Kerala (which was a mere 27% during 2008-09), HLFPPT initiated this programme in association with Kerala State Blood Transfusion Council (KSBTC) and KSACS in 2009. So far, the programme has contributed substantially in increasing voluntary blood donation in Kerala to more than 80%, thus improving its Status from 'low performing' to 'moderately performing' as per NACO classification.
